Clips fall in game 2 vs mariners

MUSKEGON, MI – The Muskegon Clippers took game one of a three game series over Grand Lake on Friday but came up just shy in game two on Saturday night. Muskegon came into the middle game riding a high after handing the Mariners their first loss of the season backed by strong pitching and an offensive outburst.

However, Saturday was different. The Clips wouldn’t register their first hit of the game until the fourth inning when Kaden Howard (GVSU) lined a soft liner into left field.

Joseph Lafkas of Grand Lake dealt all night against Muskegon; he tossed six innings allowing just one hit on no earned runs while striking out 11 hitters.

On the other hand, Zander Wills (Georgia State) pitched phenomenal for the Clippers. He went five innings giving one hit and kept the Mariners scoreless.

The first run of the night came off the bat of Luke Wildes, a two-way player for the Mariners. He lined a double down the left field line that plated one run.

Grand Lake would fill up the scoreboard the very next inning when Landon Tiesing singled to bring in a run, and Matthew Aldridge delivered the biggest blow of the night when he smoked a three-run homerun over the right field wall.

The eighth inning saw a little hope for Muskegon when they posted three runs. Ryan Louch (LCC) began the inning with a double and would come into score on a Sam Briggs (SVSU) single. Caden Thelen (GVSU) smashed a ball to center that replicated his hit on Friday for a two-RBI triple.

Muskegon out-hit the Mariners 7-6 on Saturday and received good innings out of the bullpen from Andrew Pohlman (SVSU) and AJ Park (Davenport).

Muskegon and Grand Lake will go for a third time in a rubber match on Sunday night at Marsh Field with the first pitch scheduled for 5:35PM.
