2 solo homers lone highlight in clippers loss
MUSKEGON, MI – It wasn’t nearly the outcome the Clippers were looking for in the rubber match on Sunday. Muskegon dropped its fifth game of the season in a 14-2 loss to the Grand Lake Mariners. Grand Lake put up a six spot in the top of the first to take the lead and never gave it back.
Jack Perry (Michigan) started the game on the mound but was only able to record two outs as he had trouble finding the strike zone. That would snowball into the Clippers calling upon seven total pitchers on Sunday.
Justin St. Antione gave the Clips a little hope after taking the first pitch of the bottom of the first and launching it over the right field fence.
However, Grand Lake continued to pour it on. They plated one run in the second and another three runs in the fourth.
Muskegon’s Johnnie Gifford swung the stick well in the loss. Gifford joined St. Antione with a homer in the fourth. That would end up being the Clippers' final run of game three after being run-ruled in the seventh.
Matthew Aldridge for the Mariners had a tremendous series smashing three long balls, two on Sunday.
The Mariners put up two runs in both the fifth and sixth innings to cap off the win.
The Clippers offense is still second in the league for total runs scored, so we know their offense has the potential to get them on a winning streak.
Muskegon will continue to play tough baseball and will try and get back on track as they head down to Xenia, OH on Tuesday to play a three-game series with the Scouts for the first time this season.
The Clips will be back in Muskegon on June 19th for a three-game homestand with Saturday being a doubleheader.
