Clips win final game of series with sluggers
FINDLAY, OH – If you don’t know, now you know. The Muskegon Clippers had all hands-on deck in Thursday night’s 13-10 win over the Flag City Sluggers. A team with high enough expectations heading into 2026, put their potential on display in the series' finale win. Muskegon fell victim in the first two games of the road trip to Findlay, but an offensive outburst in the sixth inning of game three sparked a come from behind victory.
Ty Randall (GVSU) took the ball to start on the mound for the Clips and gave them a solid four innings of work allowing just three earned runs and struck out two. His first outing of the season came on Sunday against the Monarchs where he was able to close the door late in a 12-7 win.
Both Muskegon and Flag City matched two run first innings, but the Sluggers would jump to a 6-2 lead after the fifth when the Clippers lineup was unable to plate any runs.
However, it was a whole different ballgame in the sixth when Muskegon sent 15 hitters to the plate, and Flag City made three pitching changes in one innings. The inning began with six walks/Hit by pitches out of the first seven hitters. The biggest blow came off the bat of our player of the game Ben Meyers (Aquinas) when he roped a double to left center with the bases loaded, bringing them all in to score.
The Clips led 12-4 at that point, and the game seemed all but over. Things got a little rocky in the ninth after a few base hits and a couple of walks that pushed across two Slugger runs.
Drew Diehl (Calvin) came in with the bases loaded and the tying run at the plate. Diehl was able to work around it allowing just one of those runs to come across to score sealing the win and putting Muskegon at an overall 3-3 record.
Unlike Wednesday’s narrow loss, the Clippers were able to capitalize with runners in scoring position and continued to hit the ball hard in all nine innings on Thursday.
The Clips will be back home Friday through Sunday as they host undefeated Grand Lake Mariners (6-0) at Marsh.
