CLIPS BEAT SLUGGERS WITH PARK ON THE MOUND
MUSKEGON, MI – The Clippers welcomed the Flag City Sluggers for a three-game set starting on Tuesday night. The Sluggers led the Clippers in the North Division by four games heading into game one, but after a 10-4 win for Muskegon, that lead is now just three. The North Division is turning into a competitive race as we work into the second half of the season.
AJ Park got the nod in game one and pitched marvelously, tossing six innings of shutout baseball while striking out six hitters. Park has been stacking quality appearances for Muskegon these past few weeks and will most likely get more starts in the second half after some losses to the pitching staff.
The Clips got on the board early and often in Tuesday's win as they posted a four-spot in the first inning and two more in the second.
Isaiah Domey drove in the game's first run with a sacrifice fly to center that scored Kaden Howard. Jonnie Gifford singled to drive in two more runs in the first.
It was Taylor Head who broke out for the Clips in the win as he went 4-for-5 with a two-run homer in the second.
Zane Gregg came on in relief of Park but was only able to record two outs before Easton Remick came in and pitched an inning and a third.
Ty Randall came on in the ninth and was able to close the door and secure a big game one win.
Ben Meyers and Isaiah Domey both came up clutch with some big hits throughout the night as well. Gifford also sent a solo shot into the trees in the fifth inning.
Muskegon's whole lineup was able to put things together and will look to repeat it on Wednesday when they go for the series win.
